Who is it for

Services for the Blind Community

Braille serves as a means of equal access to literature and signage for individuals who identify as Blind or who experience low vision or vision loss.

It’s important to keep in mind that not all Blind and low vision individuals can understand Braille. Some individuals may prefer alternate means of accessibility such as large print or text-to-audio.

How it works

What is Braille?

Braille was developed by Louis Braille in 1821. It consists of a system of raised dots which can be deciphered through tactile modalities for reading and writing.

Braille is not a language, but rather a modality of communication similar to writing or speaking. Braille transcription converts your existing content into that modality, including reformatting tables, graphs, and images so they work for Braille readers and Braille displays.

How we deliver

Braille Transcription Services

Transcribed, embossed, and bound, with a quote back within 24 hours of submission.

Uncontracted Braille page detail
Letter-by-letter

Uncontracted Braille

Uncontracted Braille transcribes content letter by letter. It is the right choice for new Braille readers, for proper nouns and technical terms, and wherever exactness matters more than reading speed.

  • Letter-by-letter transcription
  • New Braille readers
  • Technical & legal terms
  • Maximum exactness
Contracted Braille page detail
Most Common

Contracted Braille

Contracted Braille uses an abbreviated format, where a word such as "you" becomes "y". It reads faster and takes fewer pages, which is why most experienced Braille readers prefer it.

  • Abbreviated format
  • Faster to read
  • Fewer pages to emboss
  • Preferred by most readers

Complex Content

Tables, Graphs & Displays

Tables, graphs, and images are reformatted for Braille readers and Braille displays, so structured information stays navigable instead of collapsing into a run of text.

  • Tables & graphs reformatted
  • Images described for tactile reading
  • Braille display compatible
  • Structure preserved
